Our new system is easy to use for visitors, and has also provided us with a way to expedite employee screening and to easily monitor compliance.
We know we have a reliable product with a lot of future potential, along with excellent customer service.
We knew we needed to address the staffing situation both logistically and financially in order to ensure proper screening for visitors and staff.
Trinity Medical is a 23 bed critical access hospital located in Ferriday, Louisiana. Like all healthcare organizations, Trinity has been very directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and realized the need for a more automated process to screen visitors and staff.
With the pandemic came the need for COVID-19 screening. At first, Trinity Medical would schedule staff to perform screening of staff and visitors; however, this was quickly proven to be a rather inefficient method. Walt Wilson, Chief Compliance Officer at Trinity Medical, explains: “It was difficult maintaining staff to perform the screening, and when we relocated to a new facility with an entirely different patient-visitor workflow, we knew we needed to address the staffing situation both logistically and financially in order to ensure proper screening for visitors and staff.”
When Trinity Medical started looking for a Health Screening solution that would take staff out of the equation, their criteria included ease-of-use, ability for compliance monitoring, and overall dependability. After speaking with a couple of other healthcare facilities, Field Health System, MS, and West Feliciana Hospital, LA, which both use Savance Health Screening kiosks, they were led to Savance. “We did consider solutions from other providers,” says Walt Wilson, “but in the end, our decision was primarily influenced by the other facilities’ feedback.”
Trinity Medical’s Savance solution initially consisted of two free-standing Health Screening kiosks with temperature scanners. Label printers were also added to each kiosk as a method to verify passed screening at a glance. The organization has since added an additional kiosk in order to meet growing needs. A prox reader allows for staff to simply scan their badge to begin daily screening.
Because Trinity Medical has patients that are at a very low reading level, it was important that the Health Screening kiosk had a rather simplistic design, with easy-to-understand language and larger fonts. Screen designs that meet these requirements were put together in collaboration with the Savance design team.
The implementation phase went smoothly without any other challenges than some scheduling conflicts, primarily due to the availability of Trinity Medical’s IT staff. “Rebekah and the rest of the support team have been excellent, and have provided great communication throughout the project,” says Walt Wilson. “Their personalities and patience made the process so much easier.”
Since the implementation of Savance Health Screening, Trinity Medical has seen both time and money savings. “Time management has been improved, and the need for committed employees to manage the health screening of staff and visitors has been greatly reduced,” explains Walt Wilson. “Our new system is easy to use for visitors, and has also provided us with a way to expedite employee screening and to easily monitor compliance.”
In addition to the immediate benefits of the Savance solution, Trinity Medical also looks towards a post-pandemic future. At that point, a Health Screening kiosk can be repurposed as a sign-in solution for patients, visitors, and/or staff. “We know we have a reliable product with a lot of future potential, along with excellent customer service,” says Walt Wilson.
