RFID Configuration Utility is required to configure your RFID PcProx Badge reader. Some badges will work without configuring, most will not. Different badge models use different RFID configurations and formats. In order for Savance to proper associate your scanned badge with the desired user, the User ID field must match the outputted RFID reader value.
The RFID Configuration Utility is often installed during a Workplace Kiosk install as a optional install option. You can download the RFID Configuration Utility at https://www.rfideas.com/support/tools/downloads if you are not using the Kiosk app or didn’t install it previously
Utility Overview

- Press Connect to connect to your RFID Reader. Please see step 5 to ensure you use the correct connection type
- Press Write to save settings to your RFID Reader
- This shows you what reader model is connected if any are connected
- You can select the desired badge configuration. Commonly these will match the badge model number, but sometimes you’ll need to research what card format your badges use
- List of Supported Card Types: https://www.rfideas.com/support/tools/supported-card-types
- You can setup readers with multiple configurations if your site uses multiple different badge models
- This allows you to select what connection type your reader uses. Serial connections are the most common, but you can try both types to connect
- Click inside this area to test badge scans. It will show you the reader’s outputted value that is provided to Savance Workplace
Advanced Configurations
- Some readers support ‘Card Analyzer’ which helps you determine your badge’s configuration. Follow the steps provided by the program to use this tool

- Â SDK allows you to see the Data Bytes of your badge. This can be used to see if the expected Badge Number written on your badge can be read by your current RFID reader then configure the reader to output that value
- Press GetID then press your badge onto the RFID Reader
- Copy the outputted Hex Value under ‘ID’ then convert from Hex to Bit. An example would be Hex value 00 00 00 00 00 7F 93 81 to 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 01111111 10010011 10000001 using https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/number/hex-to-binary.html
- Convert the known badge number you expect from Decimal to Bit. An example would be 37761 to 1001001110000001 using https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/number/decimal-to-binary.html
- Compare your two bit values to see if they match. In our example, we can ignore 00000000. 01111111 10010011 10000001 does in fact contain 10010011 10000001
- Count the total amount of matching bits. Our example has 16 (two sets of 8 match)
- Click ‘Format’ then ensure your ‘Send ID’ is set to the total number of matching bits
