Why is my Outlook Add-In Disappearing?

If your EIOBoard Outlook Add-In seems to disappear or disable itself automatically, then this article may be for you.  Outlook gives some users grief by requiring that they re-enable the EIOBoard Add-In every time they open Outlook. After the Add-In is installed, it is possible that it may hide, or so it seems.  To solve this follow the steps below which correspond to your version of Outlook.

Outlook Disables My EIOBoard Add-In Every Time

Registry Key Entries

If you set the EIOBoard Add-In behavior to ‘Always Load’ from the registry, this setting could resolve your issue. Note: The name of your Add-In depends on the version could be either: EIOBoard Outlook Addin 2010 or Savance.EIOBoard Outlook Add-in.

Instructions in this article discuss how to set that key for an Outlook Add-In:

Look in the registry and set the ‘Load Behavior’ to 3 under-

1. Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Savance.EIOBoard Outlook Add-in x64

2. Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Savance.EIOBoard Outlook Add-in x64

You can also make sure that Outlook isn’t disabling EIOBoard at the same time by clearing out the entries in

Note: Replace the [1x.0] with your version of Outlook:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\[1x.0]\Outlook\Resiliency\DisabledItems
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\[1x.0]\Outlook\Resiliency\CrashingAddinList

and Adding a dword entry called ‘Savance.EIOBoard Outlook Add-in x64’ with a value of 1 under-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\1x.0\Outlook\Resiliency\DoNotDisableAddinList

How to Troubleshoot Outlook Add-in Issues

In Outlook Settings

While it is recommended to deploy or force the changes through the registry, you can do so through the settings on older version of Outlook as well:

Outlook 2003

  1. Click on the “Help” menu in Outlook and then click on About Microsoft Office Outlook.  On the bottom right-hand side, you should see a button labeled Disabled Items.
  2. Click the Disabled Items button.  That will bring up a separate dialog that titled “Disabled Items”.  If you see EIO Board Outlook Add-Inn or some variation thereof, click on it to select it, click Enable, then click Close followed by Ok.
  3. Restart Outlook.  The add-in should now show.

Outlook 2007

  1. Click the Tools menu and select Trust Center…
  2. In the Trust Center window select the Add-ins menu on the left.
  3. If EIOBoard is listed as disabled, click the Go… button next to the “Manage COM Add-ins” drop-down list at the bottom of the screen.
  4. On the COM Add-Ins screen check any instance of EIOBoard in the list, then click OK.
  5. Restart Outlook.  The add-in should now show.

Outlook 2010

  1. Open File –> Options
  2. Select Add-Ins from the left pane.
  3. If the EIOBoard Outlook Addin 2010 appears on the Inactive Application Add-ins list, select COM Add-ins in the Manage drop-down list. If it shows under Disabled Application Add-ins, select Disabled Items from the Manage drop-down.
  4. Click ‘Go…’.
  5. If you had to select ‘Disabled Items,’ select the EIOBoard Add-in and click ‘Enable,’ then change the Manage drop-down list for COM Add-ins and click ‘Go…’ again.
  6. Check the EIOBoard Outlook Addin 2010 box and click ‘OK’.
  7. Restart Outlook. The Add-in should now appear.

Outlook 2013 and Later

Adding a dword entry called  Savance.EIOBoard Outlook Add-in x64 with a value of 1 under-

Office 365

The O365 Version of Outlook, or Click-to-Run Version, may

not respond to the Add-In resiliency from a Registry Key. Many Office 365 subscriptions allow you to install the Desktop (Full) Version of Outlook.

The best option is to install the desktop version of Outlook and maintain the Add-In resiliency locally. Otherwise, you are forced to click: ” Do not check this Add-in for 30 days” every month.

To find out if you can download a full version:

  1. Uninstall the EIOBoard Outlook Add-In (from Settings –> Apps)
  2. Sign into your O365 account: https://portal.office.com/
  3. Click the Install Office Apps link
  4. Install the Full Version of Outlook
  5. Install the EIOBoard Outlook Add-In

After installing the EIOBoard Add-In, apply the “Always Load” behavior mentioned above. This will resolve the issue.
